WeAlu PDLC film
Switchable privacy on glass already fitted in Tangier
At the WeAlu workshop we cut the PDLC film, size the transformer, then bond on site. Glass already in the frame switches from clear to frosted — the joinery stays.

PDLC workshop in Tangier
The WeAlu workshop in Tangier bonds a polymer-dispersed liquid-crystal (PDLC) film to glass already in place : light stays, the view stops. No blind, no permanent frosting — a wall switch is enough.
We cut the sheets in the shop, size the 220 V → low-voltage transformer, then bond on site. Office partitions, villa bathrooms, hotel suites : frosted mode hides the room, clear mode opens it again.
A survey (Malabata, TFZ, Cabo Negro, city centre) checks the glass, the power route and the sheet layout. Power-up and On/Off testing are part of the install.
For architects : cable in a skirting, joint or ceiling void, coordination with the site electrician, and one contact from survey to sign-off.
They send us their PDLC partitions in Tangier
Offices, clinics and hotels across Greater Tangier — TFZ, TAC, Tech Zone, Tanger Med — have the WeAlu workshop bond their on/off film.
What the workshop installs
Four PDLC workshop steps in Tangier
The film does not replace the glass — it is added to it. This is what WeAlu supplies and commissions in Tangier.
-
Clear when powered
Crystals align: open view, full daylight in the room.
-
Frosted when unpowered
No current, the glass diffuses — privacy by default, including during a power cut.
-
Existing-IGU retrofit
Room-side bond on a sealed double unit — the IGU edge is not opened.
-
Local control
Door switch, remote or automation relay, matching the board already on site.
WeAlu jobs in Tangier
PDLC for meetings, hotels and villas
Three jobs the workshop sees most — privacy from a switch, no mechanical blind.
-
On/off film (PDLC)
One action cuts the view and keeps the light. No jammed roller, no permanent etch: frosting exists only when you want it — or as soon as power drops.
Ideal for TFZ meeting rooms, clinics and villa bathrooms.
-
Bonded to an IGU already fitted
The film goes on the room face of the sealed unit. Joinery stays, the site stays clean, lead time is short — we check glass condition and edges first.
Ideal for Partitions, bays and glazed doors already in the opening.
-
Supply & transformer
A nearby 220 V take-off, a dedicated transformer, a flat conductor along the glass edge. Low draw in clear mode, zero when frosted.
Ideal for Meeting rooms, suites and villas that already have power nearby.
Clear ↔ frosted
What the PDLC film does in the shop
A sandwich of liquid crystals : unpowered they scatter light, powered they line up. WeAlu bonds, wires and tests.
- Powered (ON)
Open view
The film goes clear again: the room has the transparency of ordinary glass, no haze.
- Unpowered (OFF)
Privacy by default
Power cut or open switch: frosted look, light still diffused, sightlines blocked.
-
Clear ↔ frosted
-
Frosted (unpowered)
Indoor install: glass clean-down, bubble-free bond, transformer connection, On/Off test. The unit stays in the frame.
WeAlu workshop · Tangier
PDLC film ready to bond in Tangier
The WeAlu workshop supplies the film, the transformer and the install on glass already in the opening — Tangier and the north coast.
-
Two electrical states
Clear only when powered; frosted as soon as supply is cut — including a mains failure.
-
On an existing IGU
Room-side bond, without opening the sealed edge or changing the joinery.
-
Rooms & wet rooms
Meetings, clinics, hotel halls, villa bathrooms: a door switch is enough.
-
Shop + install
Sheet cutting, transformer, commissioning — one WeAlu contact.
Architects & fit-out teams in Tangier
Villa and office jobs go through the WeAlu workshop for PDLC
A blind or a fixed frost locks one state. Workshop film lets the drawing keep the glass and still choose privacy minute by minute.
-
Sheet layout
Partition survey, power plan and film choice by use (meeting, hotel, villa).
-
Install & test
Bonding, transformer, door switch and tests — clean edges, no bubbles.
-
Hidden cable
Run in the edge, skirting or ceiling void: the partition stays readable, the wire does not show.
FAQ — PDLC film Tangier
Site questions about Smart Glass in Tangier.
Power-fail state, existing IGUs, meeting-room wiring and draw: what the WeAlu workshop answers on site.
-
If the power fails, does the glass stay clear?
No. The PDLC the WeAlu workshop installs is frosted when unpowered : a mains cut, a tripped breaker or an open switch makes the glass translucent. Privacy is the default state, not the reverse.
When supply returns, one click reopens the view. That is standard PDLC behaviour (not a “fail-clear” glass).
-
Can PDLC film go on a double-glazed unit already installed (IGU)?
Yes, in most openings. We bond on the room face of the sealed IGU — we do not open the edge seal or swap the unit.
A Tangier survey checks scratches, seals, glass type (clear, low-e, already filmed) and edge access for the busbar. Damaged or already coated glass: we say so before bonding.
-
How do you wire a meeting room without opening the partitions?
You need a nearby 220 V take-off (socket, board, ceiling void). The workshop fits a dedicated transformer, then a flat conductor along the glass edge, usually hidden in a gasket, skirting or aluminium cover.
The switch sits at the room door, like a lighting two-way. An automation relay is possible if the board allows it. We coordinate with your electrician; WeAlu stays responsible for the film and commissioning.
-
How much power does a square metre of Smart Glass use when clear?
In clear (powered) mode, expect roughly 5–10 W/m² depending on the film — about a small LED per square metre. In frosted mode the film is not powered : draw is zero.
The transformer is sized to the total area. On a TFZ meeting-room wall the electricity cost stays small; we put the figure on the quote after the survey.
-
Do I still need blinds or fixed frosting after the film is on?
For on-off privacy, no : electrical frosting replaces blinds and a permanent etch on the same partition. Light still comes through, unlike an opaque blackout.
A solar-control film is still useful on sun-facing bays — that is a different product. See also our heat-control films and frosted vinyl if you want a permanent frost with no electricity.
-
Does the WeAlu workshop only install in Tangier?
Installs run from the WeAlu workshop in Tangier : Greater Tangier, Tétouan, Asilah, Martil, M'diq, Cabo Negro, Larache. A job farther out is discussed after photos and drawings.
Ask for a quote with sizes and photos of the partitions — film, transformer and labour priced together.
